WHAT IS RSVP?

Mission:  To engage men and women age 55 and better in meaningful volunteer service that strengthens the well-being of both self and community.

Vision: To serve as a bridge between seniors, their experiences and community needs.

WHY VOLUNTEER?  Your gift of time of just an hour or two a week, or several hours a month as an RSVP volunteer will help others and make a real difference in your community. Enriching the lives of others enriches your life.

WHO CAN VOLUNTEER? Any person 55 years of age or older, retired or not, who has a desire to help others and is willing to share their time and be an RSVP volunteer may enroll in the program. Membership is based on your actively volunteering with public or non-profit organizations that are RSVP volunteer stations.

OPPORTUNITIES: RSVP provides a variety of opportunities for retired persons to actively participate more fully in the life of their community. RSVP fulfills agency requests for volunteers, develops programs in response to community problems, and introduces new assignments to meet volunteer interest.  A wide-variety of service activities is available; some involve a regular commitment of time and others offer flexible hours or are short-term. There is a volunteer assignment to fit every schedule. Let us match your interest to one of the 90 volunteer stations within Essex County.

VOLUNTEER BENEFITS:  self satisfaction, helping people of ALL ages, free supplemental accident and liability insurance, quarterly RSVP newsletter, annual volunteer recognition luncheon, for those in financial need, we have limited reimbursement for transportation and meals associated with their volunteer assignment (optional at volunteer’s request) and on-going support from staff

RSVP VOLUNTEERS ARE THROUGHOUT ESSEX COUNTY. You will find them at hospitals, nursing homes, schools, museums, community non-profit agencies, libraries, nutrition sites, after school programs, escorting other seniors, clinics and visiting shut-ins.
