Another pattern from Tom Wolf, a master carver, of a very sad hound. You can almost hear his owner scolding him by his body position, and expression, he almost trembles. When I first cut this blank to the pattern, I had no idea how to approach it with my gouges, so it was a challenge. But I have never backed down from anything, my knowledge took over, and carried me through the first one, the rest were easy after that. The grain runs lengthwise and you must cut away from the top down leaving enough wood for the paws etc. A little practise, and you have it. The paint and finish is the same as the others. As an interesting fact, although I have carved so many of these, I have given each and every one a different name on their collars, much as you would name a new dog in your family.
