![]() I hope you like dragons, because thats what we're showing this time. The uppermost carving of the Red Dragon is four separate pieces, the wings, the dragon and the hand carved base. The carving is completely American Basswood. In order to give strength to the wings, they had to be carved with the grain going in a different direction than the dragon himself, which has a horizontal grain. This gives strength to his feet, and all the little spikes and horns that he displays. The wings were fastened down with pegs, as were his feet, and cemented in place with a very strong epoxy. The large scales were carved in with some very sharp blades, and the tiny ones, with a diamond ball bit, and some were burned in.The base of the carving shows shale rocks covered with moss. The overall finish is Acrylic paint, with a gold gilt dry brush technique, and several coats of polyurethane. The figure is approximately 12x12x12 inches. |
