The "Fantasy Horse" is a small carving created from 3 different kinds of wood. The little horse is carved from the unpredictable Red Cedar, the stones are American Basswood, and the base is Mulberry. I was more preoccupied with the little horse since I had never carved one rearing, but when I finished him, I had no idea how I'd place him on a base because his feet were not both planted on the ground evenly, and he was too lovely not to display. After considerable thought, I began making small stones, and placing them so that he would, and could stand. This carving was so charming that he is displayed in a curio cabinet, on my living room wall. Wood carving involves as much technical expertise in display as it does in the shaping of the figure.
