The next dragon is my Golden Dragon. He is not fastened to a base, and has no wings, but he is my favorite of the two dragons because of his happy expression. He was very difficult to carve, because again, of the horizontal grain. He has many large scales that had to cut and recut because the wood kept chipping out instead of coming out cleanly (probably some flaw in my technique, I am self taught). He is stained with a very thin acrylic, and left without in some areas, his teeth, tongue, and eyes are painted in. For the teeth, I had to use the diamond ball bit in my power tool, to carve them, they would have broken quickly had I used a knife. This carving is approximately 3x12x10 inches
